American artist Todd James (b. 1969), a New York City kid fond of cartoons and subway graffiti. Today Todd James a.k.a. Reas still keeps busy with creative ideas within painting, music videos, puppets, animation and other media related projects. Broad-bosomed naked girls, pirates with weapons and armed tanks are portrayed with an ironic distance, but also as subjects to be taken seriously. Despite these colourful motives and the happy street-like style James shows a serious version of the world situation - and it is not all fun and joy. James’ work is not explicitly political, but he is obviously not reserved in his choice of image statements and always with a tint of comic ease.
