Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for a print named - APPLAUSE. This is taken from a Banksy sketch that frankly is a good deal more interesting than the painting ended up being. Kind of sexy, kind of smart, kind of sarcastic in a way you can afford to be if you've never spent six months floating in a giant tin can getting herpes defending the good name of queen and country.
APPLAUSE is a bit more expensive than the other prints because a) its supersized and b) we had to process a hell of a lot of screens to get it right.
Please note; we're aware the last Banksy print sold out rather quickly and whilst we appreciate some of you taking the time out of your busy day to ring up the office to complain, please try and fight this urge in the future. We're staggering the release time of each print to make it fairer to non UK residents. Good luck.
And yes, we did say that trolleys would be next, it will be next time. Don't blame us, blame the "artist".
A thread on the Banksy forum / Urban Art Association highlighted the differences between the UK (POW) and LA variants of this print.
"Most noticeable is the contrast of the two prints is completely different - LA is far stronger (LA print on left/top of all photos):
Men v men - contrast of main print far stronger in LA print, jackets of men and Applause sign really stand out on POW print (I've checked a few times that the Applause sign isn't actually stuck on!); but sky in POW print far darker from right of the top-left of the Applause sign - sky looks far better on LA print IMHO:
Ship v ship - note POW stamp and numbering in bottom left; also detail on piping and people in background in bottom left is clearer and more photographic in POW print; also note ship name (USS Enterprise
Wheels v wheels - note LA numbering is in bottom right - no stamp; jet fumes/Banksy's Tippex stands out far more in the POW print owing to the darkness of the sky; some artifacts of printing in runway and on far right of print, just outside border (possibly just my print):
Sky v sky - see how much darker the sky is in the POW print (on left in this photo, on top of LA print to right); also note how much rougher the top of the POW print image is:
The LA edition is approx 2cm taller and wider in the border (ie. 1cm extra all around) - however the print is the same dimensions; the photo below shows the bottom left when the top right corners are aligned:
Also the LA print has a rougher cut to the deckled edges all around - the base of my POW print is almost perfectly straight (again, could just be my print)"
