All of Stanley Donwood's prints are inspired by The Minotaur show’s (actual, working) maze designed by Stanley Donwood with a sound installation by his long-term collaborator, Radiohead’s singer Thom Yorke.
‘The Minotaur’ is an ancient Greek myth of a monster, half-man half-bull, imprisoned in a maze. A triumph of his imagination, Stanley’s maze is based on the classical labyrinth pattern but given a post-apocalyptic flavour – three occult paramilitary organisations are fighting for control over it, and these images are their propaganda. The titles of the latter three prints (above) evolve from the text on each, which is written in Enochian script, supposedly the language of angels devised by Queen Elizabeth 1st’s court magician. The extremely distinct designs also feature the ‘Modified Bear’ Radiohead logo which first appeared on the LP 'Kid A'.
