Robert Macfarlane, the Fens witch-doctor and sage of the underlands, has authored a new book titled 'Is A River Alive?', which delves into the significance of rivers. He approached me to create artwork for the cover, and I accepted. Taking inspiration from Harold Fisk's geological diagram-maps of the Mississippi river, I began working on a large sheet of linoleum with just a small chisel in hand. In a trance, I imagined myself as the force of the river, carving the lino like water flowing downhill towards the sea. After achieving the desired result, I photographed the eroded surface of the linoleum and used it to create a screen print, resulting in four unique images: a left meander, a right meander, an iron meander, and a mercury meander.
