In Supra Stealth Desire, Quinn has created a smaller version of his large-scale sculpture entitled Stealth Desire (Etymology). This work uses the head of a single orchid flower as a sculptural 'readymade', recreating its striking shape and delicate surface patterning in matt black painted bronze. This material process is transformative since it turns an organic and ephemeral object into one which is monumental, lending the flower a dark and threatening presence. At the centre of the sculpture is the orchid’s prominent central node, a visible reminder that reproduction, and in turn attraction and desire, is the ultimate driving force for all living organisms.
