We are incredibly excited to have internationally acclaimed street artist, ROA, as our commemorative poster designer for 2012. The Belgian-based artist is renowned for his unique portrayal of large-scale urban wildlife disquietly cohabiting city streets, hand-painted in his distinctive black and white style. ROA’s signature animals can be found on derelict buildings, shutters and walls literally around the world, including two in Chicago. He has also exhibited to much acclaim and was included in the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art’s ground-breaking show, Art in the Streets, in 2011.
For the Lollapalooza commemorative poster, he has created yet another bold and distinctive image that is instantly recognizable as signature ROA while also cleverly incorporating Chicago and the festival. The central motif is an enduring symbol of the city, the bear, with its lifeblood carried through veins resembling the shape of the ubiquitous transit map and Lolla at the center of its beating heart. ROA eschews publicity and rarely accepts commissions, making the Lollapalooza 2012 poster truly special.
The poster is available in three special editions, each in limited print runs. Once they are sold out, they will not be re-issued, so don’t wait to secure yours. See below for complete details.
