Based in Melbourne, Sam Yong is a self-taught artist from Auckland, New Zealand. Working with a single mechanical pencil for his sketches, colour pencil drawings, and oil painting, Sam’s latest works aim to present nature in ways that will not only resonate with the audience, but also conjure a sense of unfamiliarity and at times, unease. Sam’s work depicts the delicate balance between life and death; predator and prey and nature’s violent ‘chain of being’, with a uniquely intricate simplicity.
