Sharon Madanes' practice embodies a diversity of technique; her process begins with multi-media collage and utilizes emboldened colors and unique perspective to achieve her final abstracted compositions. Madanes' paintings showcase cropped moments of intimacy, such as the repetition of hands, representing the universal forefront of human greetings and connection. In Braids, she captures the interwoven relationships of women sitting together at a communal table. Each figure is connected within the composition through the same intricate weave: braided hair, wool sweaters, and the seating in the foreground, as well as shadowed background echoes the same criss-cross design to further encompass the intimacy of their gathering.
