Lily Ludlow paints female figures abstractly rendered into dimly lit pastel compositions that emanate with an otherworldly light. Unlike the softness of her hues, Ludlow's forms are sharp, evoking industrial design and Art Deco. Her comfortability with juxtaposition -- rigidity and fragility, lightness and darkness -- present an interestingly complex take on the definitions on womanhood and femininity. In Lorelei, this melding of opposites is embodied by the proverbial Siren, who evasively shields her face yet reclines in a suggestive repose; the sharpness of forms emphasized by her curvature, ultimately leading into complete darkness.
