Directly influenced by his environment, Andy Wauman's work was transformed after relocating to Bali, Indonesia. As Gerrit Vermeiren puts it, "[Wauman's earlier work] is about the underlying rhythm and anatomy of the urban context - its heartbeat - in a maelstrom of visual, graphic and linguistic elements. With a certain sense of drama and the romantic, Wauman places the chaos of contemporary signals and eroded signifiers into an almost apocalyptic perspective." Once settled in Bali, Wauman continued to explore optimistic social commentary through different media. In his most recent photographic work, he used a 35mm camera to document his extensive travels in "a place where a high-rise is a palm tree." The Jungle exemplifies his ongoing exploration of humanity's relationship to nature through intimacy and nostalgia.
