Undeniably abstract while flirting with narrative and text, EJ Hauser explores the transcendental potential of mark making by providing signifiers suggestive of figuration without committing allegiance to literal interpretation. She begins with skeletal framework for her compositions, which undergo series of her signature staccato shifts in texture and weight, resulting in images that exist as an abstracted narrative. Foundations upon foundations, Hauser's armatures reveal themselves slowly, nodding increasingly more to psychic archetypes than grounded reality. For example, imagining Delphi 2 is simultaneously a study in primary color, as well as a narrative exploration of Greek mythology and the seat of the Oracle, the result a structurally complex ancient 8-bit vessel that defies immediate categorization.
