Amy Feldman paints monumental canvases that appear deceptively familiar, yet the forms vibrate with subversion, clamoring against their gray confines as per the artist's often humorous intent. Using the vocabulary of minimalism via a monochrome palette, pop and the gestures of Abstract Expressionism evident in Feldman's casual hand, the final works are distinctly contemporary and all her own. Feldman begins her process with drawings on paper that are imbued with exuberance, and a deep investigation of figure/ground. Her purposefully expressive and stripped down painting language is a unique distillation of spontaneity and precision. The immediacy of Feldman's performative approach is integral to her work as a painter within the Age of Information, as it relates to the constancy with which information is shared and received in the 21st century. Ensuring sharp, breathless delivery from artist to canvas; canvas to audience, Feldman successfully creates work that is, in her own words, at once "dark and elusive and buoyant and pop at the same time."
