Emma Kohlmann infuses romantic watercolors with a sense of rebellion immersed in her background in zine culture. The resulting collection of images create insight into a murky world of mischief, sexuality, and excess. Employing watercolor as her main media, Kohlmann works instinctually and quickly, which lends an extra degree of vulnerability and spontaneity to her work. Almost illustrative, Kohlmann uses simple yet effective forms to effectively represent her characters who exist in a complicated and obstructed sexual world where ambiguity is cherished and fluidity is encouraged.
Our first print edition with Kohlmann, Cerulean tenderness, offers a wide glimpse into her intimate world, featuring a collection of figures in a series of repose, embrace, and solitude.
