Noir often painted crocodiles like this on the Berlin Wall as a metaphor that the Berlin Wall was itself a little like a crocodile.
In Thierry Noir's own words
'During months it remains without moving, waiting and waiting, and then suddenly it awakes and catches its prey, then falls asleep again. A killing machine that one can cover in kilos and kilos of colours but which still remains as horrible. A killing machine that no one can ever embellish.'
