A seminal figure in the 1980's East Village scene, Ashley Bickerton is associated with artists Jeff Koons and Peter Halley, whose careers took off after their show at Sonnabend Gallery in 1986. Bickerton worked for Jack Goldstein and later moved to Bali to escape the New York art world. Frequently noted for his affinity for the grotesque as a means of sharp social critique, Bickerton’s work incorporates implausible corporeal forms, voluptuous indigenous women, harsh ecologies, and polluted environs. This edition, digitally reworked from Bickerton's anthropomorphic and mixed media "Head" series, uses conversational phrases likely found in Gchat and text messaging, and is completely exclusive to Exhibition A.
