The overall theme that I was trying to accomplish with the series was to mask and reveal simultaneously. Each portrait in the series comes down to a fairly simple equation: one part of my personal mythologies, one part my relationship to the subject and one part archetype. “Where Fawn Once Lay” happens to be about romantic love and ones normal fears and worries when romantic love meets lifestyle assimilation.
Out of the series, this is the only piece that really has external bodies. In most of the works, all the parts are fully anchored onto the figure, this one has insects flying around her head. I wanted it to be slightly panicked, but ultimately dreamlike." - Austin Brady
