"Danny Fox creates pieces that excite me. They have granted me a chance to be moved by painting again, which is a rarified occurrence these days. When I saw his work...I had to have it." This excerpt from Wes Lang's foreword in Fox's new monograph–published on the occasion of his solo exhibition which opened last night at The Redfern Gallery in London–exemplifies the influence that the young painter has already on fellow artists. Fox's colorful and sometimes crude artwork, in Lang's opinion, "needs to be seen, needs to be discussed, shit on, lifted up, liked, hated and everywhere else in between." We love the image of the lone, spirited outlaw on his black stallion mocked by two fried eggs in the sky. In his catalogue essay, Simon Bayliss suggests that Fox's horseman are "roaming as outcasts in a bygone painterly world."
