Dan Mumford's "Megaptera Novaeangliae" highlights Humpback Whales, which are predominantly found near coastlines. They feed on krill, plankton, and small fish, and undertake large-scale, annual migrations from summer feeding grounds near the poles to warmer winter breeding waters closer to the Equator - the farthest migration of any mammal. While their populations have been rebounding thanks to conservation measures, they remain at threat from entanglement in fishing gear (bycatch), ship strikes, habitat impacts, and pollution.
