Money Map of the World - China. Archival pearlised mixed media print on 330 gsm Somerset Paper. 150 x 95cm. Edition of 60, each signed and numbered.
I am really excited to share with you an image of my new print edition 'Money Map of the World - China', the collage of which was finished last year. In this new map I have re drawn the world, putting China and Asia at the centre, playing with scale of the continents, shrinking America, Europe and Africa. Each country is depicted by it's own current issue banknote and features several newly issued notes including the re designed 100 Yuan Chinese bank note (now the worlds largest bank note) and also the new Russian 100 Rouble note marking the annexation of the Crimea, so a very topical note of recent history. One side shows the Swallows Nest castle, a landmark on the Crimean Peninsula, overlooking the Black Sea and the reverse side depicts the scuttling of the Russian Fleet in Sevastopol Bay, in defence against an Allied Navy. The continents are floating on an iridescent screen printed sea of Bitcoin code. Bitcoin is a non state controlled digital currency, created and held electronically, powered by its users. As with any map, this will eventually become an historical document , but I feel this map is capturing a snap shot of a very particular time, and at the same time looking to the future. It is being made in an edition of just 60 prints. At risk of blowing my own trumpet, I think it is a really special piece.
