In this work, Perry plays with two recurring art historical themes: 'The Artist in His Studio' and the 'Reclining Nude'. The setting is Perry's studio where sacks of clay mingle with cans of WD40 and samples of tapestries. The languorous pose mirrors Titian's 'Venus of Urbino' while the accompanying cat echoes 'Olympia' by Manet; the fact that Perry portrays himself as a hermaphrodite, reflecting his transvestitism, shows how the category of the nude is ever changing.
