"Working with Mondo and Nickelodeon on this SpongeBob poster was a dream come true. Mondo is so exciting because they continue to push the medium and redefine the art of the movie poster. We artists are given a real creative voice without the potential constraints of designing a commercial one-sheet for theatrical release. The purpose isn't commerce, the purpose is to make art!
"Initially, I worried about how to go about paying proper tribute to SpongeBob because he is such an icon, but then realized the power of his icon allows you freedom to do almost anything! I really wanted to incorporate the Bikini Bottom neighborhood houses in some way and thought it might be a fun idea to pay a nautical homage to the queen of fruit hats, Carmen Miranda. SpongeBob naturally embodies that playful spirit, so thematically they work well together." -Drake Brodahl
