This hard-carved, limited edition artwork Blood, sweat and tears of joy was created by British sculptor Alex Chinneck – one of the winners of #LibertyOpenCall 2018.
Blood, sweat and tears of joy is one of a run of just 25 limited edition artworks by Alex Chinneck. Chinneck's work combines elements of craft and sculpture with a healthy dose of surrealism in order to elevate and examine the secret life of an ordinary household broom – the fluidly knotted structure of this typically inflexible domestic object appears almost like a trick of the eye, demanding closer inspection. Hand carved from ash wood in the South East of England over the course of ten days per piece, each of these works has a surface that is grained with its own distinctive markings and colouration. A remarkable collector's piece.
