Derrick Adams (b.1970) is a Brooklyn-based artist whose strong design sense makes for complex structured assemblages that draw on urban plans and architectural frameworks, fashion, and pop culture. His practice is deeply rooted in ideas about the African American experience, the shape of that identity, and persisting stereotypes. Adams' work is in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Studio Museum in Harlem, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Birmingham Museum of Art, and the Pizzuti Collection.
