In GreenScreenRefrigeratorAction (2010-11), Mark Leckey explores the possibility that we can be in constant dialogue with every aspect of our environment. In this performance, which centres around a black Samsung refrigerator, Leckey seeks to communicate the inner life of a 'smart' fridge - one that keeps an electronic tally of its contents.
Entitled RFID Chip (2011) based on the ambient computing technology that enables this flow of information. Leckey's silk screen plays on the multiple connotations of the chip's labyrinthine design; at once resembling a network of interconnected paths, an industrial logo and ever expanding lines of energy.
Mark Leckey, born 1964, was awarded the Turner Prize in 2008. His work has been widely exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions at Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, in 2008 and at Le Consortium, Dijon, in 2007. His performances have recently been presented in New York at the Museum of Modern Art, Abrons Arts Center; at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, both in 2009; and at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 2008.
