Zoe McGuire (b. 1996, Albany, NY) is a visual artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Her practice is intuitive, beginning with frenetic and gestural lines that blossom into soft landscapes rendered in rich tonal compositions. McGuire is currently completing her MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art and received her BA from Skidmore College. Recent exhibitions include solo and group shows at Another Gallery (New York, NY); Taymour Grahne Projects (London); Gaa Gallery (New York, NY and Cologne, Germany); and Pippy Houldswourth Gallery (London, UK), among others.
Mystical and natural visual motifs take on an almost musical form in her first collaboration with ART FOR CHANGE, Thatcher. Based on a waterfall she used to frequent near her hometown, the moody scene presents an almost fertile unity of the earth and the atmosphere.
The artist's personal history is sliced open with layers of color and light arching over the titular waterfall—evoking desire and nostalgia through a sense of place equally specific and universal. A tonal palette of jeweled hues and rapturous highlights, Thatcher explodes with life and light with a soothing symmetry that streams down the page. The artist has hand-embellished all prints in the edition with additional details in soft pastels, making each a unique work.
