A depiction of Singleton's childhood home in Tacoma, WA, G Street centers on two youthful characters playing outdoors. A boy sits atop a large toy horse, raising one hand and directly engaging the viewer with an outward gaze. To his right, a female companion bends her body, with arms outstretched towards a disproportionately sized basketball. Behind the figures is a flattened view of a domestic setting—populated with details such as a dining set framed inside a window, and patches of grass separated by a path that leads from the driveway to the home. Featuring the loose brush strokes and expressive placements of color that distinguish Singleton's practice, this work stems from a recent series titled Family Portraits, which pays homage to his loved ones while relishing in the joy found in daily life.
