Printed Matter is pleased to announce Untitled (2025), a new limited edition print by Huma Bhabha created exclusively for Printed Matter and continuing the artist's exploration of new motifs. Bhabha's work pulls from a myriad of ancient and modern sources to create hybrid forms that are earthly yet alien, and simultaneously timeless. In a series of recent works on paper, Bhabha draws connections between pre-Renaissance paintings and the ubiquitous hoodie form of contemporary popular culture to explore the formal possibilities of ink, charcoal, and collage. This latest work is composed of gestural marks, a heavy band of black ink encircling a mouth-less face, with small photographic cut-outs of cats and dogs as placeholders for the eyes. This new work exemplifies Bhabha's use of collage in her work, giving permanence to otherwise ephemeral materials. Taken together, the work emphasizes Bhabha's ability to delicately combine imagery that is equal parts haunting, humorous, and emotionally resonant.
This 16-color screen printed edition is produced in collaboration with Powerhouse Arts.
