A new limited edition print by Lee Ufan distils his philosophical vision into one signature stroke.
Dialogue is a quintessential example of what has made Lee Ufan a revolutionary figure in East Asian contemporary art. As a leading voice in Dansaekhwa (Korean monochrome painting) and founder of the Mono-ha movement, his restrained gestures, rooted in his childhood practice of calligraphy, create what he calls "a direct encounter with the world".
In this work, a single blue-to-white brushstroke amidst negative space captures his decades-long exploration of colour and form, stillness and movement, silence and gesture.
The 21-colour silkscreen print includes hand-drawn details that capture the depth and subtleties of the artist's influential work. The edition is made in collaboration with Dia Art Foundation, which the launch fundraises for.
