Created during Fang Zirbes's ART FOR CHANGE artist residency in Santa Monica, California, Moonlit Siren features a female figure who reclines before a crescent moon. Curly tendrils of the character's long hair recall a row of cascading sea waves, while the curvature of her body evoke a winding shoreline. The monochromatic composition emblemizes the artist's trademark technique, in which acrylic airbrush, traditional painting, and graphite are combined to achieve a soft, velvety textural quality. The artist notes, "This work was inspired by the ocean, and the view of the water from my upstairs bedroom. As someone from the Midwest, I have always been curious about the ocean; having the opportunity to make work so close to it felt meaningful." For this limited edition series, Fang Zirbes will render each print unique through a variety of techniques. Whereas some will feature penciled and inked elements, others will be airbrushed with pearlescent and iridescent motifs that resemble shells, pearls, and bubbles.
