Lehmann Maupin and LITO Editions are proud to announce the release of a day in the life of a gourmand (2025), a limited edition of 20 prints by acclaimed Malawian-born, South Africa-based artist Billie Zangewa, whose work has garnered international recognition for its unique style and its ability to merge fine art with textile traditions. Based on Zangewa's silk collage first unveiled at the inaugural edition of Art Basel Paris in 2024, the edition, which depicts Zangewa's son having high tea at the iconic Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town, represents a shift in focus in the artist's work from self-examination and femininity to motherhood and the home.
This marks Zangewa's first foray into LITO's pioneering print technology. In this edition, LITO brings Zangewa's richly textured visual language into the hands of collectors in an accessible new format, while preserving the strength of her vision. Known for her intricate hand-stitched silk collages, Zangewa draws deeply from her own experience as a woman, mother, and artist. Often the heroine of her own figurative scenes, she uses portraiture to transform everyday actions into powerful expressions of identity and presence. A day in the life of gourmand (2025) captures the warmth and nuance of her work, translating its tactile elegance into a collectible edition for a new audience.
