Miwa Komatsu channels Japanese mythology into her new limited edition print.
Three Guardians: Gatekeeping the Heat and Cold, painted in 2021, depicts three mythical lion dogs of Japanese folklore, known as komainu. For the artist, who grew up among the mountains of Nagano and begins each work through prayer and meditation, art is a direct channel to the immaterial world. Inspired by the monk and calligrapher Kukai, she approaches her practice as a form of living mythology.
This limited edition print features two silkscreen shimmer layers, a matte varnish seal and bespoke deckled edges, made in close collaboration with the artist and our specialist printmakers at Make-Ready.
