This work is part of the artist's Tropical Readymade series, an ongoing body of work begun in 2006 while still a university student in Puerto Rico. Living and working on the island has profoundly shaped the artist's practice, with the tropical landscape, everyday life, and the realities of building a creative career from Puerto Rico serving as constant sources of inspiration.
The soccer ball unites two defining influences in the artist's life, nature and sports, drawing from childhood memories of family members transforming everyday objects into planters. The work reimagines a familiar object through the lens of the Caribbean while celebrating soccer as a universal symbol of connection. Reflecting on the World Cup, the artist explains, "At a time when the world often feels divided, soccer reminds us of our common humanity."
