‘If you are after a truth from a portrait, you want it to do something a photo can’t. A painting has to have a sense of time passing in it. A photo captures a moment. A painting can’t compete with that.’. Tying in with his forthcoming exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London, we are offering a selection of 7 prints by the portraitist Jonathan Yeo from his portfolio ‘Some People’. The selection includes 4 archival ink jet prints, all hand varnished or coloured in the artists studio, 2 etchings and 1 photograph. Jonathan Yeo is probably best known for his unauthorised portrait of George W Bush in 2011, which was a collage of cuttings from pornographic magazines, and led to him being arrested by the Israeli authorities. His LA exhibition Porn in the USA (2011) also featured images of famous personalities created with this method and generated worldwide notoriety.
