Black Hole

Ryan Humphrey carefully selects found objects (think old school BMX bikes and bottle caps) for their known functions, repurposing them into sculptures, large installations, and murals. A versatile artist, Humphrey does not shy away from any project. He's created his own custom wall paneling to hang his paintings, welded chandeliers from monster truck tires, stacked beer kegs like totem poles, collaborated with BCBG on gowns, Maschino on a storefront, and with Todd Oldham on carpeting. Through his work, Humphrey aims to propose questions and leave the answers open ended. The original Black Hole is a large painting on sheet metal over six feet tall. Here the artist investigates how the spiritual symbol of the phoenix, a symbol of rebirth in Native American and Greek mythology, ends up on a Trans Am muscle car, an icon of 70s culture.
