Anne-Lise Coste's airbrush and gesso paintings on canvas fuse the intuitive mark-making of expressionism with the mechanized paint application of Pop -- liberating text, image and mark from narrative obligations. Her art historical references to Miro, Picasso, Pollock and Morandi are executed with a quick slight of hand, revealing her multi-lingual sense of humor and spiritedness. Coste says, "I need a wider field of play. We speak a million languages. I like to see diversity every day in the street!" Coste has upcoming solo exhibitions at Susanne Hilberry Gallery (Detroit), Ellen de Bruijne (Amsterdam), Otto Zoo (Milan), and will be represented at the Dallas Art Fair in April.
