"The original painting was part of a group exhibit with Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. It was an open theme, centered around the idea that the works be on the smaller more affordable side for new collectors. As someone who loves art, but can’t afford it, I wanted to make a bold and beautiful painting that would resonate in viewers, no matter the size.
I had just moved back to the states from a 2 year visa in England. So I wanted to take all of that pent up energy from the move and the emotions I was feeling, visualize what it may look like and free myself. I like to learn from my experiences, and turn them into something beautiful. Both visually, as well as for my own spirit. To me this painting symbolizes both leaving something behind, as well as starting a new. All flames promote new growth, and that’s the way I want to see the world." - Lola Gil
