Michael Bennett combines light colours that sometimes only change through texture. He reduces the houses, the walls, any other architectural forms and shapes he sees to basic geometry. And with layers upon layers of intuitive tones, he creates very quiet, special abstractions.
Our aim was to actually translate Bennett’s painting process into a print by applying similar methods. The result is a unique, textured surface. Therefore he painted some layers by hand and later took advantage of the printing-method to create a variety of textures. The piece itself looks quiet – one wouldn’t expect the craftsman-ship that was put into it. The nine layers, in different shades of grey, are only visible at second sight. “Heightened Sense Of Self“ is unobtrusive but it is full of detail to discover. This is why it has some sort of depth because of the texture.
