Blair Thurman’s work is currently on view at Gagosian in London in “The Show is Over”, his third group exhibition with the gallery. This past summer he staged a staggeringly beautiful show at Karma in Amagansett. Whether it be his iconic track paintings, his winner’s circles or his effortless light sculptures; Blair Thurman demonstrates a visual intelligence that places his craftsmanship front and center. For many years he assisted the late Korean artist Nam June Paik where he became aware of information overkill and developed his understanding of neon. We once heard him refer to Yayoi Kusama’s paintings as having “hallucinatory integrity,” a term easy applicable to his own artwork.
