The Street Sweeper graphic originated as a 1970s decal package for a Corvette slot car. Presented here, the motif takes on an anthropomorphic or mask-like feel. We can't help but be reminded that Nate Lowman's bullet hole imagery also began as an after-market automotive adornment (although in his case it was for a PT Cruiser). Much of Blair Thurman's work explores America's fascination with car culture, conflating childhood memories of hot wheels with a deep investigation of painting rooted in 1960s Modernism. Ovoid shaped canvases and neon tubing have become symbolic of his style, the circuitous 'track' paintings giving a physical presence to infinity, the cyclical nature and perpetuity of life. We love this print for the speed it suggests and as an homage to muscle car iconography.
