To mark the occasion of Frieze London, White Cube will launch 'Krrump Thup!', a new print edition by Christian Marclay at our forthcoming opening at White Cube Bermondsey. The edition will be available to view and purchase from 6pm on Tuesday, 15 October, 2013.
Christian Marclay's work, which references pop culture, appropriation art and sampling, is an investigation into sound and visual media, and the relationship and limitations of them both. In 'Krrump Thup!' a follow up to his 2007 print 'Krak', Marclay uses fragments from colourful comic strips, isolating certain words and phrases that convey sound. Through these singled-out words and phrases, he emphasises how sound can be transmitted both aurally and visually. Like his film works, which collage many fragments together from pre-existing materials, these comic-strip works use a collage technique to create new meanings and to explore the role of language in relation to sound.
